I lock down today and I am a nervous wreck. I candled the eggs one last time and couldn't tell what I was looking at in the dark brown eggs. I didn't see any movement but I kept them in the bator. My 5 little seabright eggs showed movement in 4 and I thought the 5th one looked good. This morning I woke to find an egg with a couple tiny wet brown spots on the upper shell. I put it in a baggie and removed it. Thankfully, it didn't explode. It was one of the eggs I had marked as "no movement" on day 14. I will separate the other two suspicious eggs from the others at lock down in case something bad happens. Hoping to get at least a couple chicks - fingers crossed.

Lock down is an exciting AND stressful time! My lock down did not go well. My temp got very low and stayed at 93 for most of the day. I then decided I had to increase the temp and I really hate messing with the temp. This is definitely why it would be good to have two bators--one for incubation and one for hatching!! It would be less stressful(I think, although then you have to fight two bators! lol!) and a quick switch to lock down. My eggs are due to hatch tomorrow. I have no peeping and no rocking which is a bit disappointing but in a few days it will all be over! I hope to have some new babies to take care of!! Oh and I have the hardest time candling dark brown eggs. I just can't see much!!

Woke up to three new babies for a total of four, all eggs pipped and the little baby that was upside down hatched out just fine I have one egg that the chick busted the yolk, it looks like it turned after it pipped and the yolk leaked out of the pip. I so far have a 50% hatch which is amazing considering they were all shipped eggs! I'm hoping the two others that pipped besides the leaky yolk hatch too, that would be great!

We've got a chicky! I went to check temps and humidity this morning and saw a "broken" egg. I was scared, until I saw a chicky huddled in among other eggs. She's a whole entire day early! Do I just leave her in there? She is running all over the other eggs. Is that a problem? Need advice.

I leave mine until everyone is done hatching, the suggestion I have heard most is no more then 24-hrs. Im guilty of taking them out once there is only one or two eggs left to hatch, but if they are stll really wet I leave them in there to dry. Congrats on the chick, do you know what it is?

I took four of the five that hatched out as they were dry and wreaking havoc on the unhatched, they are about 12-hrs old now There are two silkies and three frizzles, after they discovered the warm light they all passed out face first lol so stinkin cute!

Ok wasn't excepting anything until tomorrow....But have peeping and piping! So might have a chick today. OK I cut up some toilet paper rolls and made litle rings for the eggs to keep them stable. But now I am worried that it will be harder for them to hatch? Anyone keep their eggs in anything beside just having them on the mesh? Should I take them off the rings...which means opening the bator during lock down.....Help please!

If you have pips I don't think I would open it. I have mine sitting in egg cartons with the tops and bottoms cut out. This was suggested to me by several people so I hope it works!! I am so jealous that you a day early getting chicks. I keep checking mine and there is NO change!! Something about a watched kettle not boiling!
