Oh I know the feeling! This is the first hatch where I am ad hearing to Lock Down...so it will be hard for me! Luckily I have a friend coming to visit and things to do to help me leave them alone! My friend that's coming hasn't seen chicks hatching so she is excited! So much fun! And new eggs for next week...first time I got them in the mail...they should be here the 6th or 7th!

Hey everyone ... I posted a thread ... this is the link ... Not trying to cross-post, just trying to save my unborn chicks. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/672548/day-17-getting-scared-start-early-lock-down.

I am freaking out. Do I start lock down early ??? These are VERY WELL advanced unborn chicks. I'm afraid they are going to dry out before they get a chance to hatch. A part of me says stop and breath, another says to get the 2nd incubator going and start 12 hours early on the advanced only.

Anyone know ???

We have a pip! The little brown egg at the bottom is rocking and rolling too, soon to pip.

How exciting! I can't wait to see that on mine. I had a little mishap this morning, but I think it's okay now. I had paper towels under my eggs and a sponge. When I was getting the sponge wet through the vent hole, it got the paper towels wet too. I was so afraid to have those eggs sitting on wet paper towels! Luckily, it dried out pretty quickly. The humidity went up a bit, but now it's evened out again. If I need to rewet the sponge I will be EXTRA careful next time.

I wish I could answer Julie's question! Hopefully you get an answer soon.

I would think it would be fine, I always remind myself that in nature things arent perfect so there's no sense in stressing about the little things. I had a couple of temp spikes but nothing that would harm the eggs and now I have pips so I'm glad I didnt stress over it! I have to head to work in a bit so I'm pretty sad I wont be here to watch over the eggs but it's probably best so I dont hover and intervine lol

I would say if we are only talking 12 hours early then go ahead and get the other bator ready and move the eggs. Definitely breathe! They will probably be your first to hatch!!
