wow this has been a grat thread to read up on. Mine are approaching 3 weeks and just hit my 2nd bag of food-how much did you pay for your food-the way I averaged mine out it looked like Id hit around 6+$ a bird...

Welp Hatchery is great.. and also the least expensive I've found (closest to here too) I'm going to order another 25 CornishX when the weather cools.. feed them for 3 weeks, and dress as Cornish Hens.

Mine didn't get that big!! I averaged at $6.50 a bird and that was with 4 losses before I started butchering and the weight so far on the males has been in the 6 # range. Mine were 8 weeks when I started to butcher, I was afraid if mine started having heart attacks I'd lose money. I started with 26, lost 4, butchered 11 and have 3 in the "waiting pen" for the morning since the DH has work and I don't, I butcher by myself. I used 350+ pounds of feed so far. I also got mine from Welp, they were the cheapest I could find for 25 straight run chicks!

yah like by the pallet load! Id probably think long and hard doing it if I had to pay that much:-( of course are meats very expensive there? I mean--I can buy a storbought chicken for like 7-8 for a whole bird-so I was trying to raise my own meaties to cut down on winter costs for feeding my family of 4. Now..Since I got the meaties I hear my almost 12 year old saying she will NOT eat them-like all the roos Ive offed! Well I told her she can starve for dinner:)

Can get then for .99 - $1.29lb at Sam's or Costco, but that's an 80 mile trip one way... and we only do that once a month or so... plus, I was going for trying to get out of the mass production chickens.
