Hi, I'm a relatively new chicken owner (had some as a kid, don't remember much) and we got ahold of about 14 buff brahmas(unsexed chicks so that will be fun). We've got them for eggs and meat, but will likely have fun with the chickens until the time comes. The wife and I have about 8.5 acres of land that we plan on letting them free roam to take care of bugs as well as cut down on feed costs since apparently brahmas are ravenous birds.
Some other details include the fact that we both are history buffs(focusing mainly on iron age Scandinavia like the nerds we are) and are trying to become more self sufficient. Not necessarily 100% off grid, just wanna have more control over our food and such. Chickens being one of our first steps!
We've got a chill foxhound who will likely not care about brahmas when they're fully grown, but don't really know how to get him acclimated to them sooner if need be, and a fat Garfield of a cat who stays indoors anyways.
Any tips for beginners would be very welcome!
