That's what I just now realized. I had to switch gears from Dark to Partridge, lol!

Mary, I know what you mean, but I'm sure it will become less confusing as I learn more. This is a variety I have never really taken time to study. You know me, I'm all about my BRs and my blue/black/splash, both easy peasy to understand. But, it's such a pretty color pattern, I am so happy to have them all! When I asked Tom to send me the eggs, I didn't specify color, just any color, even project and/or mixed colors he had available. I'm thrilled with these and so grateful to have them (and of course, the BR treasures that you and Jill conspired to get to me, too).

I can't believe I didn't catch on a bit sooner about the #2 Dk Brahma not even being a Dark. But again, my inexperience is part of it. He/she hatched from an egg marked "Dark" but as someone who has gathered and sent hundreds of eggs out to folks in my time, I know how easy it can be to mislabel one, especially if they are very similar eggs. Doesn't even matter, though, since I wasn't picky about what colors I received in the first place. As tiny chicks, there was no way to tell the difference, at least for me. Now, the difference in base color has become apparent.

So, all I need now is to verify for sure the sex of that chick. It has no orange on the shoulders so maybe it is a pullet, which would be fabulous. That would give me two straight partridge pullets, one blue and one dark. And I'm left to choose my keeper male.

They're beautiful! You know I love blue chickens, which is why I love the blue partridge color of my Brahma babies, especially.
I found out why I was getting so many terrible pictures. My camera was stuck in the flash off setting. It would flash before the picture snapped, but that was not enough. So, I fixed that issue and here are some decent ones.

This chick is the big blue Partridge one that I was having trouble sexing. They are turning 6 weeks old this Wednesday. With the new feathers we see coming in on chest and shoulders, were we all right at the beginning? Is it a cockerel?

On left, my "Dark-oh-no-it's-Partridge chick" and left, blue Pt pullet.

This chick on the left is very slow to feather, very red and sparse foot feathering. He is going to be rehomed for certain.
