New building for my birds

Today I got enough male cages made that I could get rid of the temporary ones which frees up quite a bit of space for the next round of cage construction. Also it will never look this good again. I have 14 cages made and at least 8 more to go. that will wait till after Christmas. I can care for all birds without opening cages. Food , water, and waste removal all from the aisle. Tried to get a picture of what it looks like in a cage. I still need to drill holes in the bang boards and other little stuff.

What are the dimensions of these cages? I tried pulling up Tom's page, but couldn't get it to work for some reason. I was working on the plans for my cages :)

I tried also and Tom's site is not coming up for me either. They are 2'square like Tom's. Tom's are 2' tall also while mine are only 16" tall. I clean the bang boards every 2 weeks and can do the 12 cages I have occupied in about 5 minutes.

A rough hand drawn plan for my coop. It has been lots of work to build but I can now care for them better and easier than ever before.

Are these show birds? (Sorry if I missed that earlier in the thread)

I do show my birds but they are not all show birds. Some are very good and some are just birds. I do try to breed good quality Cochins.

So are you raising for eating/selling eggs and meat and breeders?

Never eat these birds since all are Bantams. I have a 6 year old hen in the coop who will die of old age here. I can buy dressed farm raised birds from my Amish neighbors cheaper than I can raise them. We do eat a few of the eggs but not a lot. I incubated almost every egg laid last year. I do sell some birds to others who want to show. I never sell eggs or chicks. I try to raise at least breeder quality birds but of course there are culls which go to auctions. I have set up 4H kids in several counties and they have done well. I have sold and shipped birds from Florida to California and places in between. I have at least 5 going to Florida in Feb.

Trish brought this sign out today. Her husband made this sign for the club approval and I had to put it in the building for a while. Our club will be proud to have signs like these for the show next year! Really cold here this morning. Not a frostbit comb yet this year even with conditions of -10 and windchill of over -25. Finally turned on a light to get them to lay sometime next month.

How long do your males spend in those cages at a time? Don't they get sore feet from standing on the wire all the time?

Do you have plans to build a run?
