I'm a few years experienced with chickens, but I have about a decade's worth of bird experience thanks to my grandma. Like me, she loves birds, which helped a lot with understanding their behavior, needs, and, of course, improving my pain tolerance to beaks and claws.
I have a couple Easter Eggers, a Buff Orphington, and an Australorp. My oldest is a large EE-Ameracauna mix, and she's named after Guinan from Star Trek. I was hoping to name my whole flock after Star Trek characters, but when you got nieces, plans change, lol.
As for me, I love gaming and handling animals, though whenever a situation arises, that situation is facing a person who's childhood dream is to kiss a cobra
. I cannot emphasize enough to leave wildlife to the professionals, and always double-check the law. Anyway, it's been a seasonal battle against the raccoons trying to sneak in my house now that the coop is secure. Personally, I like opossums better, they're a lot more cute and a lot less crafty!
Sadly, I gotta give up my girls for an emergency move, but these chickens (plus this forum) have given me a lot of experience in raising a flock. So, once we start building a coop for the family farm, we can get it right!
