New Button Quail mama

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies!
Thank you! I have been exploring non stop 😀. I even made another actual post, but don't think I have a reply yet...but I am quite excited to see so many bird people in one space!

Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad to have you here!

I'm sorry for your losses.

Button quail are very cool birds. They're definitely on my wish list of birds to have one day. Well done on hatching so many despite all of those possible setbacks and for being able to help those smallest three get stronger!

I definitely get that about designing the future chicken coop. The design currently living in my head (upgrade from my current one but not happening yet because I need more space) is getting more and more complicated lol.

Thank you! I am still in awe that something can be o small, yet so tough. And thanks to this site, I have also now started to make a list of other poultry I have to add to my wish list. Lol

Glad to meet you, and welcome to BYC. I am so sorry for your awful year, and your losses. I got chickens, and then quail, after my husband had to go to a memory ward for Alzheimers, so I, too, have found consolation with my birds. I think many of us have, in many ways!

That is an adorable bird in your avatar photo. Great picture! And what a dramatic story pulling those last three shrink wrapped babies out and saving them! Well done!

Thank you and so happy ro be here. And yes, sometimes it's not always humans that help us get though our darkest hours in life. And that little cutie is one of the new borns just 2 weeks ago. You should see the difference in all 10 of them now! All still doing so well.

You should see how fast my coturnix change! They hatch out as adorable tiny puff balls that look like the little toy chicks from Easter baskets of my youth, and now they are all gangly teenagers with their feathers half grown in - just 3 weeks later! Of course, they ate a heck ton of ground up game bird starter to get there, but they sure do process it!

I find them a blessing and a constant source of amusement. But I don't think the coturnix will ever be as tame as a pet for me. They are just a lot of fun to work with. They pop up like popcorn as they practice their startle flight move. Good thing I have a large sheet of loose screening draped over their brood box!

It's the same here. Within a week I had to put something on top of the tank they are in as a brooder. They seem to enjoy showing off their flying abilities! Most a 2 weeks old yesterday and today. That little cutie in the picture currently looks like this already! Check out the little mohawk hairdo!
