That is a really cool cage! We have something a little bit simular that we built and we attached them to the walls of our chicken coop until we have a seperate coop for the quail which will hopefully be soon!

WOW< I didn't know you were interested in getting into quail in such a big way! 64!! Post pics when you have the whole shelving system up, that's a really sweet cage.

I only have 4 hens, and 1 roo, and that'll be it for me this year, until I hatch more next year to replace them. The most I can imagine having is maybe 2 roos with 8 hens in my one cage.

Are you going to breed for different colors and breed for big? Or just the biggest bunch of Jumbo browns for food? I'm curious!

It's having to accomidate two of us. Evan, my oldest son has his birds, and he's interested in colors and songs, two of the pens are for his birds (he understands what happens to extra birds). The others are for meat production. Since we're in city limits, we can have as many quail as we want, but are limited to 4 chicken hens. We may try to get some jumbo colors, but since I'm not sure how related the coloration gene and the size genes are, it'll be trial and error. But hey the kid doesn't leave for college for 9 years, so he's got time.

hey kiddo, I love the cage idea but have one concern............

Moving your birds from outside to inside........

The shock of the change will knock them off lay. You won't get eggs this away. They like constant....... From the flightpen to the indoor pen they quit laying for three weeks and vice versa..... I'd set up a perm area for them if it were me.

Yeah, right now with the where to buy a house question, I wanted a cage that could go either way (115 degrees in the garage last summer). Once we get a settled location then we can sort out in or out.
