New chick with inflamed/ deformed foot, plus polydactyl

That be a real shame. In your experience is there anything I could try as a precautionary measure for possible infection? Any antibiotic safe for new chicks?

I'm sorry about your chick.

The swelling near the vent may be infection, so hard to know with little ones like this.

Sometimes if they hatch with deformities, they fail to thrive. I'd keep her warm and hydrated, encourage her to eat.

As for the leg, likely no correction can be made, I agree, it's a deformity, it's possible she can adapt, but she may lose more mobility as she gets older and heavier - time will tell.

Your right. Did a little more research and found it quite possibly has mushy chick disease conpounded with everything else it has going on. Poor thing. I'll still give it a chance as the duckling from this article/ post with same ailment ended up surviving and living a full life.

Another product I have never used unfortunately. So I can't advise.

I have tylan 200 injectable on hand. Diluted with water to create tylan 50. I've given two doses 8hours apart and the little chick seems much more alert. Seen her drink and eat much more than usual. Stools also look normal. Not runny or including a frothy foam consistency like the last few days... again, I have some hope!

Found an older thread for dosage and will add it below in case someone needs for future refrence (which just might be myself again lol)!!! This is for Tylosin 200 and Tylan 50 dosage for chicks. Screen‐ shot of said dosage included as well*

Update. Our chicken is still alive. If I had a similar issue I would use above treatment. She is a beautiful hen just has some unique genes and a foot deformity. Otherwise she is happy and healthy she is pictured on the right.
