One of my new Australorps (three days old) has runny bowels. Her poop is about the consistency of chocolate syrup. Disgusting. Anybody have any ideas? I'm brand new to this hobby, and I'm like a fussy new mom, but I'm a 70-year old retired guy.

Are all of his stools like that? Or just once in a while? Chickens have what is called a cecal stool one every 8 to10 bowel movements that really smell bad & look like you describe.

Good information. Thank you very much. I don't think it's serious, but I do not want to make a mistake if I can avoid it.
Thanks again. The chicks are doing well. They will eat from my hand, and today I put a couple of small earthworms in the crate, and they went crazy eating them. They played tug of war with one of them. It was great fun watching them.

Chicks are constant entertainment, that is for sure. Chicken TV!
I am glad they are doing well for you, and glad if I was of help. Let me know if you have more questions.
