So great to hear...we have 12 eggs in the bator...for the longest time I thought those were special chicken vitamins...so cool that they are kid vitamins and easily attainable...will have some on hand for our 2nd hatch!! thanks:bow

Thanks for posting this as it was a much needed light bulb moment for me.

I have a chick that is having trouble getting her legs under her. I got some water in her which perked her up some. After reading this and the light went on I immediately grabbed the bottle of Polyvisol I had handy and gave her some. Been so stressed out this week that it totally slipped my mind to use it for this poor chickie.

Baby Huey is moving her gimpy leg more and her foot finally opened out the way it should be. She is still very wobbly so in the morning I will give her more Polyvisol and make sure she is hydrated before going to work. She hatched last night so she has not really tried to eat yet. She does peck at the food though.

I had a chick hatch yesterday with curled toes. Took her out of the incubator today, gave her polyvisol drops and taped her toes strait. Within a hour she made a huge improvement.

I had to go out and buy the polyvisol drops at CVS in the infant vitamin area, they cost $11.

It can also be slipped tendons, which sometimes happen as the chick struggles to hatch (or if the chick is on slippery footing). Do a search here on "slipped tendon" for info on diagnosis and repair, because if your chick in fact has slipped tendon(s), it is a condition that MUST be addressed immediately, else the chick will never fully recover. BUT it can indeed be fixed if you do it right away.

Hows your baby doing? I had a cochin bantam that after hatch wouldnt walk for 3 days. His legs were straight out in front of him. He tried to get around with his wings but just kind of flopped around. He slept alot and I didnt think he would make it. I gave him vitamin water every hour by dribbling on his beak and put food on paper towel in front of him. I finally decided if he wasnt better the next morning we would cull. Got up the next morning and he was up running jumping around. You couldnt tell anything had been wrong. He is a very handsome 4 month old boy now. We named him Forrest Gump. Hopefully this is the outcome you will have.
