Hi I recently got 3 blue australorps a week ago and one has established itself as in charge and in the last few days has been constantly making LOUD crowing noises. The lady I got them off raised them eggs that hatched 8 months ago and had them with their brother the rooster so im wondering if it's because they are used to having a rooster around. Any advice on how to stop this would be great as I live in a suburban area and I'm sure the neighbours wouldn't be fond of her noise making.

Ps this is my first time having chickens.

You want him to stop crowing?

Crowing hens are rare. Not completely unheard of but if it walks like a duck, talk like a duck well bad news.

Post a picture, at 8 months we can sex it for you. Need clear pics of it's comb, neck feathers, and saddle feather area.
Not so rare.. my sebright hen crowed for a wee while.. and yes she's DEFINITELY a hen :p

I will try to get a a video of her doing it as I'd doesn't sound like a roosters crow but more a poor attempt at one. However she will not do it while I am outside.

My hen.. when crowing.. sounded like a bit like a squeaky toy. It was a squeaky, hoarse, version of a crow and her crow would "break" like a teenage boy. It was rather hilarious all up and she'd give me the snootiest look if I laughed at her :p
