Hello. We just brought our ladies home. It's a mixed flock. 3 leghorns. 2 black Australorps, 1 buff Orpington and 1 RIR
400

The ladies have alliances. We are having so much fun watching them get settled in and learn their new home. We already have a couple eggs. Our buff marigold seems sleepy much of time and her eyes are "squinty" she's roughly 2 months. She loves to eat, drink, peck at watermelon or salad mix I set out. She forages with the big Australorp.

We are worried she's sick?!? I've checked for mites/injuries/eye drainage. Nothing seems peculiar. Any advice to a new hen mother?

Marigold sounds like she is being a normal chicken. If you are concerned though you may want to post on "emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures" thread. Is she a good weight - if she is thin you may want to worm her.

Thank you. She's getting plump. I'm going to keep a watchful eye ;)

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have a nice mix of breeds. Thanks for posting their pics. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of ours), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
