New chicken in TX

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Coop cleaning frequency depends on the population density of the birds to the coop size and how long they are confined to the coop and the poop management technique.
For example, I use poop boards in a coop that (currently) provides 4.2 sq ft per bird but has a predator proof attached run that provides another 15.3 sq ft per bird. Before they get let out of the run for the day into their pen. I clean my boards each morning and clean the coop once or twice a year.

Hi there DobieLover,
My new chicks are on the back porch near the door for ease and convenience to start learning process. The first thing I learned is they poop everywhere-LOL! So I clean the water bowls for now until I can get them in the coop. Its a smaller coop so no room for water disperser. So they walk all over the bowls for food & water. Hopefully, the temp will cool and I can move them away from house and give them more room. Your information is helpful and I'm anxious to give them more sq. footage soon ! Thanks so much !
