HI there, new chicken mom here in NJ. I'm a vegan myself but my daughter and husband want to eat eggs so this is how we compromised. I care for and love them all individually and they gift them with eggs...eventually. We've built them a lovely house, protected from predators, and our active dogs. They are currently 17 weeks and I'm freaking out because I think the 2 silver laced wyandottes we have may be cockerels......They have not crowed but they are super bossy, puff up and have the " look" of a rooster. I'm hoping this site will guide me along the way in case I have them and just for good info altogether .

Hi and :welcome for joining us. How lovely you have offered to be a chicken mama,
for your daughter and husband to have their eggs. If you put some pics of the ones,
you may think are cockerels, you will soon have replies from our experts here. It will also be nice to see your pics, you will enjoy it here, and learn so much from everyone.
Enjoy your new journey. :frow

Hiya Sandi, :welcome! Glad you could join us, post some pics of your chooks in question and at 17 wks someone on here will know if they are cockerels or not. At 17 wks I would think they would be crowing, but stranger things have happened. Here's hoping for bossy pullets :fl.(Wyandottes are typically pretty bossy chickens so you might be in better shape than you think)

Keeping chickens for eggs is a great compromise! You can post pics of your suspected roos here https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/what-breed-or-gender-is-this.15/ for assistance.
