it's not really an official breed, but if anyone's managed to breed a small and/or bantam french black copper maran, i'd be interested in hatching eggs. especially if they lay on the 8-9 scale.

would also be interested in any bantams that lay pink, green, or blue eggs. looking for a rainbow basket.

bonus points if you're in Long Island, NY. thanks!

Did you ever find your mini marans? I'm in Maryland and wouldn't mind a couple, myself! Look into bantam EE's for your pastel colored eggs. Mine lay the prettiest little light aqua eggs! I've seen others that lay pink ... and EE hens come in all sorts of purty colors, too!

There are a few people "working on" bantam marans and at least one hatchery that advertises them, but they don't lay the dark "chocolate" egg of a true marans. They're more of a darkish buckskin, usually with speckles. Bantam EE's lay all over the pastel palette... and some Silkies lay a pinkish egg. I have mostly Nankin bantams, which lay a pale pinkish-cream egg, but not enough that you could call it colored. Still, I LOVE my Nannies!

just googled those and they look SO cute.

which hatchery advertises those? maybe I can have a look at the eggs at least.

which ones are working on the bantam ones? i searched a lot in here but only found one thread, and the eggs were more of a brown.

Nankins? I can pm some contacts, if you'd like, or you can contact Colonial Williamsburg (VA.) They have one of the largest flocks anywhere. I don't know anyone who has the marans, right now. I just remember seeing them listed (and out-of-stock, of course) back when I was actively looking.

I just searched here on BYC for the BCMs. Most of the posts are old, but you may find someone still fiddling with the project. The contact at Colonial Williamsburg is the head of their heritage breed conservation, which is likely still Elaine Shirley - a wonderful resource! Last I checked (but it's been years) she shipped eggs in the Spring.
