New Chicken Mom!

Five of ours were gifted to my son as chicks in very early October and are laying. I wish I knew who is laying what, though. Especially since I want to try and hatch some chicks of our own.
The hatchery I got them from sent me email on their “birthday Monday” saying get those boxes ready. They all take great delight in pulling apart the one 😅. The other is my older adoptees’s chosen spot and they leave that in alone. Waiting to see when I get my “first eggs”. Serena arrived laying, so although we get a cute small egg every 30hours it isn’t my original babies yet.

:welcome @hlsmart79 - A friendly BYC welcome to you, friend!

First off, it's so nice to hear you've found BYC so early on in your experiences as a new chicken caretaker. You have come across a site full of great info, and even better folks who really know their stuff. There are so many old articles and forum posts to refer back to if you have questions, but if you make your own post people are quick to respond and offer info based on their experiences.

My tip for a new chicken keeper is PREDATOR PROOFING! If you love your birds, keep them safe from potential harm. I always like to mention that keeping a game camera nearby helps identify these potential issues by seeing just who is checking out the coop.

Thanks for sharing photos of your lovely flock! And we can't WAIT to hear about your Spring adventures with chicks (psst...lots of photos!)- hey, maybe you can join the next Spring Hatch-A-Long?
