momma! I have had my ladies for going on four weeks now, only one casualty being I had my chicks shipped. I have always wanted chickens and now I have them

I originally wanted 4-6 hens for eggs. Ten hens in and I am wondering how many is too many? Chicken math can't be THAT hard

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us and congrats on your little flock. Chicken maths is harder than you think and it gets even worse if you have lots of space and a huge coop

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

Greetings from Kansas, meflint, and :woot! Pleased you joined our community! That chicken math will get you! I started out many years ago wanting to get "just a few" chickens to raise to eat. That blossomed into today where I have about 30 laying hens, ducks, geese, guineas, and turkeys! Oh yeah...and a couple pigs! Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC! :woot

Welcome to the community where Chicken math catches up to most of us. Congrats on your flock and they are so cute at that age and into everything. Learning and exploring their new surroundings you got to love it.

Welcome!

Your littlies are adorable!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share more pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
