Hi, everyone! I became an urban chicken mommy this week as a gift to myself, oh...and my kids, for my 40th birthday. I spent my first decade of life on a farm so I thought it was important to share some of that with my children. Only my four youngest are at home still. They were adopted from foster care and I try to teach them important life lessons but don't feel like that is an easy job anymore in this day and age; with the added speed bump of behavioral issues.

In addition to be a mom of five wonderful kids, ages 11, 12, 13, 14, and 20, I also am a mommy to a 13 year old maltese, who thinks he should live here with me only, a 12 year old lab/shepherd mix, a 1 year old crested gecko, who was left behind by my oldest son, and now four beautiful 5 week old chicks...all pullets, I hope.

I spent many, many (an embarrassingly large number of) hours on BYC before I knew for sure I could do this urban chicken farm thing in a small-ish yard in a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa. I believe with a community like this one I will be pretty good at this.

I am not entirely sure. I'm confident I have a barred rock, golden comet, and partridge rock....maybe. The one I am stumped about is white with light grey in some spots.

Oh...and here is my baby. His name is Brinkley. He has congestive heart failure and we are spoiling him even more rotten these days.
