New Chicken Owner here...

well almost anyway. I pick up my 5 chicks on Saturday. So that gives me just a few days to get their new home ready for them.

Just for the record, My parents had chickens when I was growing up...I never thought I would own any but as I get older, I am finding myself wanting to be a more self sustainable. You know....growing food...now the chickens. Who knows where this will lead.

I am looking forward to picking the brains of the knowledge people on the board so I can learn how to care for my new charges.

Off to look around now!

I am getting 1 RIR, 1 Black Australop, 1 Copper Maran, and 2 unknown breed chicks.

Welcome! I always wanted chickens as a kid but we always "lived in town".

I now live directly across the street from my parents (they've owned that home since 1982) and have a fairly large backyard flock and loving it!

This board is full of awesome information.

I am new too. Just joined a few minutes ago. I read here a lot to get some good information. We just got our first chickens 1 week ago and are picking up 30 more new ones today from the Post Office. WE are very excited about our new babies!! We have had some predator problems and now with standing water in our coop. So, we will be addressing these fun issues this weekend.
