Hi, my name is “Chickn Jo” and I’m new to the taking care of chickens world. I love to build things and typically build things to last so with my wife’s help, I built a chicken coop/run in May 2020. Our lean to style coop & run inside dimensions are 4ft W x 14ft L X 6 1/2ft H.
We bought our sexlink peeps around the middle of June. We really only wanted 4 but it was suggested we get 5 in case one wouldn’t make it.
Well, they all made it and all 5 are currently laying eggs. Our girls are really healthy and we are starting to get pretty attached to them.
In the spring will be adding a 200 sq ft X 6ft H extension for a play area since we don’t want to raise free range chickens.
We’re hoping to continue to get some good advise from the Backyard Chickens forum for any issues we encounter in the future.

very impressive carpentry skills, the lino is a good touch. Not surprised the seller wanted to get rid of 1 more ;)
One feature I can highly recommend even if you don't need it is to add a feeding tube. What you do is get some drain pipe and a couple of bends, you attach it to the outside of the coop so the pipe runs down towards the feeding tray. Then you can pour feed into the tube and don't even have to go into the run, the bends need to be slightly downwards, like on drains. Eggs can be taken from the outside too so it makes sense to make it a tad easier to maintain it. just place a lid over the drain when you have filled it up.. A similar design can be made for water but for water there already are great bucket type automatic waterers
