I hope it's ok to post here I want to say hi and let you guys know what's been happening here. It was 19 degrees this morning and the girls were cold even though I have 2 heat lamps in there coop and several comforters around the outside to cover the windows. There water outside was a brick of ice I had to break so I had to break it three times. It is 3 o clock now and it is 37 degrees . Several of the RIRS have chosen to lay there eggs inside the comforter hanging on the outside of the coop. So far I have found 4 eggs in there. Those birds are not stupid they know a warm spot when they find one. I also put up another comforter on the inside on one wall of the coop we shall see if that helps them as it will continue to be in the low 20s. Well my fell chicken followers that's it for now oh I gave them some mealworms and they went crazy. There new treat. Until next time thanks for all you love.

You need to have lots of ventilation in the coop to keep the birds warm. You need to think DRY not warm.
If the moist air cannot escape the coop, your girls are at risk of frostbite and respiratory distress.
I'm sure you are aware of all the risks associated with using heat lamps in the coop. They just shouldn't be necessary. We went down to 8F last night, I use no supplemental heat and my flock was fine and dandy.
Can you please post pictures of your coop?
Where are you located in general? You can update your profile with that information so it is readily viewed well your posts.

They can rather easily set your coop on fire and kill all the chickens I think clocks in at number 1.
They prevent the chickens from properly acclimating to the colder weather.
If you suddenly lose power your chickens get plunged rapidly into weather they are not acclimated to.
Not really a risk but they cost money to run.
You should never need supplemental heat in Arkansas.

Heat lamps are a big fire risk and there's posts each year of coops burning down and sometimes spreading to barns or homes, due to heat lamps. 19 degrees with proper insulation is no problem for healthy adult/young adult chickens to deal with.

Also OP this is a little off topic, but when starting threads I'd advise you to name the thread the actual topic. All your threads are named New Chicken and it's confusing as to what each thread is actually about and honestly I've skipped a few thinking it was all 1 topic and it wasn't. You'll get better and more advice if you make it more clear what you're asking about each thread, i.e. "Chickens cold at 19 degrees"
