Where do you buy scratch and grit?

The same place you get your chicken feed - which will depend on your location, but generally that list will be chain "farm" stores, feed stores and even some pet and/or garden stores will have poultry supplies.

Actually you don't want chicks going into the nestbox - they will end up sleeping and pooping in there. Not something you would want them to continue once they are laying eggs. For now close off the nestboxes so they cannot use them. When they are approaching point of lay, the combs and face will get darker red. If you touch their back they will squat for you like they would for a rooster.

At that time you would switch them over to layer feed, and put out a container with oystershell. If they need more calcium they will take if free choice. When you do open the nest boxes, put a golf ball or two in each box, so they think another hen has already layed eggs there.
