new chickens but have no idea what they are

In my experience babies aren't too interested in treats until 10-12 weeks, unless you are one to make your chickens pets. My current batch of babies finally approach treats with gusto. They are almost 3 months. A month ago they would stand there and give the treats the stink eye for several minutes before tasting, then eat it slowly. I finally got them to eat them eagerly with grapes, cut them into bit size pieces so they could just swallow them w/o pecking. Yogurt is easy for them to eat, and funny. The dip their beaks into it, add fruit the first time to encourage them to try it once they like fruit. I swear I can hear them slurp, but not really, I am half deaf. Cool fruit treats are great in the hot afternoon. I stop by the produce section of the market and have gotten permission to "trash pick" from their waste cans. Today netted 2 pkgs of melon pieces, bag of salad, 2 apples- small pickings. I have filled apple boxes on occasion when pickings are of things that will last a couple three days. Sure saves me money.

We put a higher platform in their pen today and that was fun watching them all at some point get up there to be the highest chicken lol. They have truely been entertaining. And I tried the banana, nope. no one liked it. Red did take some out of my hand but then dropped it. none of them actually tried to eat the bananas. Now, the yogurt was a bit diffrent. None of them seemed too interested at first but when I pour it out they all decided to eat it. that was fun. Tried a slice of lime too. no one cared for it it seemed, but later I saw one of the little girls(white rocks??) eating the pulp out of the slice. so maybe they will eventually start eating things other than their feed. But then i guess they are still a bit too young too. I guess i need to have some patience.

hold the citrus, please. there is a list here of what chickens can / can't have... do a search to find it... hope this helps!

Guineas can be sexed by their voice. If they make a "buck-wheat" kind of two syllable call, they are hens. Roos make a single syllable "chi" type call. The hens can duplicate the roos but the roos can't duplicate the hens on calls.

A good treat you can try is plain cooked spaghetti. Nothing on it. I find that chicks over 4 or 5 weeks usually respond well to this. It is gentle on their system, and funny to watch them run around with.

spegetti sounds like a great idea!!! i'm always making spegetti and they seem to love to peck at my shoe strings lol I'm going to try that today

I tried the spegetti!!! that was great entertainment for awhile LOL I will be doing that again

(but not too often for awhile as they are only 7 weeks old)
i still have the problem of red pecking at me. he seems to not be doing it for anything other than to see if something on me is ediible. Oh, and now all 5 of the reds have decided to attack my shoe strings!!! So now i either hide them under my pants legs or wear flops. nope, they don't really care much about the toes. None of the white ones do this
