Hello,

So i recently acquired a local breeders stock due to the owners declining health. We are pretty good at identifying the breeds especially once we found out that most of her stock were rare breeds and that nothing she owned was cross bred (same breeds in the same pens and different breeds in different pens). When we arrived this one rooster was free ranging all alone. Can anyone help identify him? Ps he’s only in a cage because he is not getting along with any of the other chickens because they pick on him. Any idea what he is? He appears to be crested but it’s hard to tell. We do have some legbars and sumtalers but he doesn’t match the roosters in those pens.

I think he is a mixed breed. He's got a sort of modified silver laced color pattern, very white legs, a small crest, heavy build, and a touch of white on the earlobes. That doesn't add up to a pure breed. Maybe Wyandotte, Polish and Orpington mix, but that is just a guess.

Would you call that a pea comb?

Not sure. It's the result of breeding parents with different comb types. It could be a modified pea comb or a modified rose comb. If the former, then one parent would have to have a pea comb.
I was thinking modified one or the other... but it *looks* more pea than rose... to me.

I agree... most likely he is a cross. :thumbsup

Ok thanks everyone I was hoping he was something I haven’t seen but my gut was he probably isn’t pure. He has the tell tale silver lace Wyandotte breast colorations but the comb and crest were throwing me off. Only thing is the breeder is positive she didn’t have any crossing going on.
