New Chickens won't roost

We always used round poles for our roost. I have noticed that some people use one by twos and other square cut lumber for theirs. I always thought that would produce foot problems.

Some people prefer the flat side of two by fours because they live in cold country and they want the hens to sit on their feet to keep them warm. I guess it pretty much depends upon where you live and what your chickens want to do.
