hey everyone!
i am fairly new at raising chicks, and i put them in what used to be a garden. the chicks are only about 3 months old, and they keep flying out! i have a lot of coyotes around and if i go out and don't get back until 9 or 10, when i go back to lock them up for the night, they are all sitting Outside of the fence! this is a big problem. the fence is only about 3 ft tall and there is not a cover to protect them from hawks so they keep getting out. i have to get something else and i was thinking of getting a old dog kennel but they are not cheap. any suggestions?

Have you thought of buying a secure little coop for them? Or keeping them in a temporary brooder indoors/garage until they are bigger? You could also try clipping their wings to hinder them from flying over the fence.

i have thought of that but i don't want to clip their wings because if something does get in the fence, they will not be able to get away as easily. and i want them to be able to be outside so they are tougher because it can get really cold here in the winter and really hot in the summer and they are about 3 1/2 months old

and i just want to add, i do let them roam around during the day when i am home, so maybe they want to get out and dont want to wait for me?

Check out hoop coops. I am just about done with mine and the cost was under $200 and it is 8X8. You could probably make a longer one for not much more. Tractor supply has the 10X10 run on sale for $250 right now
