hi guys, so i just got 4 new additions to my flock and need suggestions and tips to get them as accustom as possible to their new home!

Ive put ceramic eggs in the second story which is where the nesting boxes are, i’ve noticed they haven’t been jumping from the ground level to the nesting boxes and roosting area where they sleep, one of them has picked it up and has been laying! but the others are yet to really go in and explore the second story. I decided today to grab them all and physically put them im there for a little but didnt seem to help… they ended up jumping down 5-10 mins later. I did see them investigating the nesting boxes with the fake eggs which is good! but they still wont go up there. Everything else is completely fine. (the jump into the second story is maybe 2 feet so its not like a huge leap)

I want them to start laying as soon as possible anybody got tips and tricks? would rlly appreciate it!

Can you post a picture of inside of your coop including nest boxes set up so we can get a better idea of how it looks? 2 feet isn't a huge leap but for some larger birds it might give them pause without a step or a ramp but generally that shouldn't be too far for any bird. You said they're new, were they already laying before you got them and do you know what their setup was where they were before? Chickens don't like change but the fake eggs is good and the fact they have been inspecting it is a good sign and it might take them time to adjust.

They will lay eggs when they are ready to lay eggs. Getting used to the nestboxes will not make that happen any sooner. If they need to lay eggs, either they will find the nestboxes, or they will lay eggs on the ground.

How old are they? Were they laying before you got them? Moving to a new place will sometimes make chickens stop laying, even if they were laying before. Or they might not be old enough yet.

im away now but the second floor is probably 1.5 feet i had my brother do a rough estimate. i see you said moving will make them stop laying. how long usually does it take? one of them is still laying everyday on schedule the other 3 are still getting accustomed but no eggs from those 3

It seems to depend on the chicken. Some do not stop at all, others stop for enough weeks to make the owners very impatient.

I think a few days is the most common length of time for them to stop, based on what I have read (I haven't personally moved very many chickens, so I am mostly going from what I have read of other people's experiences.)
