Hello! I'm a 26 year old wife, toddler mama, teacher, and newly established Chicken Mama.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have 8 eggs that I am currently incubating as a part of an innovative to help increase my student's attendance. I got the idea of 'class pet' that I wouldn't have to keep in the classroom forever. My husband and I are moving out to his family farm this summer so I thought that this would be a perfect time to start our own little flock of chickens.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
8 incubating eggs, not sure how many chickies we will get.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I'm really not sure what type of eggs I have. I got them from a coworker who said she has a mixed flocked.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I have one of those personalities where I like to try to do everything the best I can so I've been googling a ridiculous amount of chicken related questions which landed me here. :) I finally decided to 'drink the kool-aid'

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm a pretty crafty person. I love sewing, knitting, and all those things. :)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Like I said, I'm a wife of three years and a momma to a perfect little 1.5 year old boy who loves everything animal, farm and car related. Besides our hopefully soon to be chickens, we have two rambunctious dogs and a cat, who believes he's a dog.

G'Day from down under brcoulter :frowWelcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they hatch and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Thank you everyone for the welcomes! I'm excited for this resource to help me be a better chicken farmer. I did post over in the incubation forum about my egg's air sacs (I feel like they are smaller than what all the diagrams say they should be), but haven't gotten any help yet. Hopefully someone responds soon. :)
