Going to pick up my first set of chicks tomorrow. It will be close to 90 deg tomorrow. Will I still need to put a light in the brooder, or will the ambient heat be enough. I will have it set up at night when the temp drops to high 70's and low 80's.

This is my light for the brooder now a good way to judge heat is to see if the chicks go and hang out by the light then they need some heat but if they are on the other side of you brooder then it is too hot and if just running around then it is just right ...... Just like the three little bears .......

Gander is right, you won't really know until they are in there - so be prepared. Get a thermometer and test it out - with and without the heat lamp.
I would say, yes, set up the lamp ahead of time so it is ready if needed.
