The world of chickens is a great one and the people on BYC are great also.

Welcome ZooMummzy and have a great time!! If the word gets out, all the kids will want to come to your house to see your babies.

Well, you can count us in also.

We have gotten so crazy ( and you can count my DH in on this also--that old farm boy has become so in love with the babies you can't believe it!) --- We are going loosely vegetarian.

We will eat the eggs the girls will eventually give us, but we just can't eat the flesh any longer. After seeing how they are..how they love, etc... Just can't do it.

All from 27 little chickies .......

Welcome from me as well, also a relative newbie. I hatched my first chicken on Saturday - I cannot believe it took 42 years to get to this point, but its terrifice.

And be forewarned, this forum is addictive and the swap/sell/trade section is totally cool. You can find almost any kind of fowl there.

Oh, I'm already addicted so the warnings are too late

It has taken 41 years for this country girl to get chickens but I'm loving it. Everyone else thinks I'm nuts, but I've been used to that to my whole life so it doesn't bother me! The funny part is, my city-born husband is the one who thought I was the most nuts, but he's been checking on the girls constantly since he got home last night!

Update: Brought the last two girls home yesterday - 2 more Rhode Island Reds...Gertrude and Emmeline

I was going to get week old chicks on Friday, but decided to go with the 4 week old chicks instead. They are fitting in very well with the other girls, looking over them and being "motherly". The little ones pile on their backs to sleep. It's very cute and nice to see. Why did I wait so long to get chickens!?
