New Chicks arrive today!

We've always called a few days before and let the post office know. We give them our number and each time we've had chicks arrive, I get a call at 5:00Am letting me know they have our chicks. Never enjoy the wake up time, but always fun to head to post office and be back before our kids wake up to see them. Good luck, you'll have a blast!

I went down there in person and the guy looked at me like I was stupid. So this morning, exactly what I didn't want to happen, happened...they ended up in the truck. Luckily my street was first and I got them pretty early BUT the postal guy said he tried to call me and it went straight to busy...I have a cell phone, that doesn't happen. Turned out he was dialing 800 instead of 808 for the area code....the right number was on the box...

Oh well...they are here and all is good :).

As long as you see them eating the food and not the chips you’ll be good. Sounds like your keeping a close eye on them anyways.
What happens if you get a rooster?

I was in there at least every two hours today. They ate a lot of food....I didn't see any issues with them trying to eat the chips.

If I get a rooster I will deal with it. I think I can have one...and the coop is far enough from the house and our neighbors are far enough away that they won't be disturbed by a rooster if there is one.

Made it through night one and everyone's up and eating. They seem to be happy in their brooder.

Do you ever add probiotics to their water? Any additives to their water? When can I give them some greens and should I give them a clump with the roots and dirt or just the greens.

I usually put Nutridrench in their water for the first few weeks - just enough so that the water resembles very weak tea. I'm not sure how long to wait for the other things. With one group, I waited 2 weeks. The next I put with a broody, so she was outside from day one. The next group, I waited even longer. All were fine. They really don't need anything other than their crumble, but ppl do give bits of lawn to acclimate them to the soil before they go outside. I'm sure someone here will have better advice on that.
