I had 12 chicks hatch over the weekend, so they are 3 and 4 days old currently. Six were bantam Cochins, and they are all healthy and fine. the other six were Silkies, and all but two of them are also fine. It's the two I'm very concerned about.
Although they appear perfectly normal (no deformities, etc), neither of them can walk. It's not spraddle leg, it's more like their legs just won't work right thus they (sadly) drag themselves around using their wings and very minimal help from their feet/legs. In this way they are able to make it to the water and food bowls and so are surviving. But unless something changes, I don't see how these babies could possibly live much longer.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on or how they might be helped? I would appreciate any thoughts or advice.
Thanks!
