New chicks for "cosmopolitan rednecks"

Hey PulletNewbie, yep. Main reason the honey and I got them no more than a week old was because we wanted them hand reared. I don't know what anybody else does but right when we got them. first day, soon as we got settled at home we'd hold them close in the cup of our hands, bring them to our lips and blow warm breaths on them and do a "sleepy time cheep" sound. You know, that little cheep like purrr the do? That seemed to settle them quiet nice and quick. Been over 15 years since I took care of chickens and chicks but that little deal I remembered. Now, the babes are 3 and 4 weeks and the greet us like long lost friends when we go to them. Helps that when we want to handle them, we come bearin gifts! Little meal worm bride or something, the near fight to be picked up! Marilyn, the buff orpington, is my little pirate parrot! Can't keep her from climbing up all along my hand, arm and making her way to my shoulder. She is a character! Soon as my honey babe and I can we'll load up a vid so yall can see, it's some show! Cuter than a spotted pup

opps, forgot to add the pic I wanted to show..isn't she adorable!? That little white ramican cup on the table behind her's the "bribe" cup with goodies to reward them for being held. Took them 2 hours to learn what hands mean! "Goodies!"

She's precious! Does she have a name yet?

This particular one is Marilyn and I shouldn't say this but she is my favorite. My little shoulder pirate parrot. She's in my honey's hand there, first day at home with us...about 4 or 5 days old. I'm a bit of a sucker for her

and I think she knows it!

First picnic for the girls!

Took the chickababes out for a picnic in their yard for a bit yesterday and tossed in a few pails of compost and wow what fun watching them ATTACK the bugs and worms! Look at how the black feathers are coming on Norma! Jean's back there by the hen house and she's getting hers too but you can't tell in this picture. You sure a shooting can see Thumbelina's specks coming in though! And can you say "WOW Marilyn is going to be a...big girl!" Look at the size of her! I'm going to have to get another job just to keep her fed!
Oh yeah, honey's change Thumbelina's name again...it's back to Tippy. Yes, as in Hedren.

That's not a bad idea really. Better to be woken up in the night hearing something than going out in the morning and finding, well, you know.

Well. NorthFlChick, I suppose your right, there. I DO enjoy the little freeloading boot peckers. And I think it get me pretty upset and sad to find THAT in the morning. Gonna take me some getting used to, though...they seems to "cheep cheep" off and on through the night...they did last night, anyhoo.

My babes had "field trips" as weather allowed this weekend from their hen house to their yard...slept like rocks all through the night! Didn't hear a peep from the baby monitor!

This here is Tippy...started as a dirt bath...then just got funny. Ended up resting her head on her foot and just setting there enjoying the sun for a few minutes.

Here's the twins...Norma and Jean

Checking out the PVC roost...seems Jean has other idea, like counting her feathers

Marilyn and Tippy
