New chicks How long do I keep them in the brooder.

Lol I must be crazy then. My daughter has two baby ducks in a brooder in her room and I have six, one wk old buffs in the spare bedroom. Not redy to put them in the coop, was given some old cranky free range game hens, they are testing the new fence. Once they are dispatched the chicks will move into the coop. They do not bother me at all in the house, but once I get power out to the barn, that will be the brooders new home. Building the solar panels for the barn now, so it won't be long. Cheaper to use solar than to run wire that far.......

No I think it depends on the brooder and age of the chicks. I was using a wire cage because I'm not going to build something when I knew spring was right around the corner. And its really nice out.
Nights are a bit chilly, sometimes in the mid 30's. Mostly in the 40's now.
I'll see how it all goes because this is my first time with chicks.
Rees911..... lol@ the dust comment.

I think mine will be 3 weeks old next Saturday and nights are around 40, so I am moving them from basement to the Garage. My brooder has a digital thermostat, fan, and 110 watt heating element from incubator supply. Also has one red 60 watt bulb and one regular 60 watt bulb. Think It will be fine.

We were brooding our 4 chicks in a large plastic tote, lasted maybe a week and a half. Now they are in the upstairs guest bathroom tub. I put a large beach towel down and then their shavings, Brinsea heat plate, and the portable perch from the coop. They are probably around 2.5 almost 3 weeks old. But here in the suburbs of Portland Oregon we have been getting such wonky weather. If and when we do move them to their coop would it be a good idea to move the heat plate out there too?
