New chicks scare me, wish someone would have told me.

And I was even warned by the lady I bought my brooder from that the chicks would fall over asleep from wherever they were, and that they would look like they were dead. It STILL scared the living daylights out of me when I would see one all sprawled out and "dead"! More than one got nudged or poked, let me tell you!

Hehe...this happened to me, too. Went to a Southern States to get my babies and was totally freaked out at some of them just laying limp in the brooder. The girl there was nice and said no, they just sleep like that sometimes. So she gave them a little nudge and everyone popped up. *phew!*

Anyway, to the OP, I think freaking out over owning baby chicks is pretty normal. I know I was totally nervous about it. But I got used to it and got into the routine of caring for them and now it's just part of our lives. And you will totally fall in love with them.

Great photo of "is he dead?" chick!

You'd love ferrets--You can pick them up, shake them, scream in their faces, and--nothing. Limp baby. Oh, no!

Seriously--if you think a ferret is dead, wait for rigor mortis to dispose of the body!!!!
