OK I got some new babies this week. The day I brought them home I noticed 2 were dripping liquid from the beaks and producing snot bubbles. Some even look kinda rough around the feathers. I have been nursing them back to health some are doing much better. I got some Vet RX and Pro-biotic powder to help. Today 2 of the worst ones were better. But now I have one that has watery eyes. I treated her today with the Vet Rx. Hoping this gets better, but wanting to know if this is serious or something brought on by stress. They looked fine the day I got them until that afternoon. I will list symptoms I have noticed below. Thanks for taking the time to read and answer this.

Symptoms:
Runny Beak and Nose
Snot Bubbles
One with Watery eyes
bald spots around tail feathers on some and one has some balding spots on back. (baby who is real small)
Normal solid poop on most. Some have a little softer brown poop.
Noticed breathing sounded stuffy but has gotten better

They are all active some that were not feeling well the other day are more active today. They were in coops that had lots of hens with them all ages. I am wondering if bald spots came from pecking. I would think if this was something serious it would get worse but I have had 2 get better after 3 treatments with the Vet RX.

I welcome any and all help with this. Answers from people who have experience with this would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

Sounds like a sinus infection for most of them, but I could be wrong. I handle a lot of poultry for my job, but I only am in contact with them for a little while. My own poultry rarely get sick.

The lady I got them from swore up and down all her chicks were disease free. I have my other chickens to worry about now. They are not in the same coop and these are not being let out to free range right now. But they still have access to the coop and can see them. Hoping my hens don't get sick.

One chick took a turn for the worse. Her eye is swollen shut and real has discharge coming out. Not moving around a lot. Have her in the house but I dont know what to do for her

Is there as foul smell from the chick you have isolated...around its head? Is the discharge thick and yellow ?

If so...I would treat with oxytetracycline...could be coryza.

If it is confirmed that the chick has coryza it is likely to have passed this on to others....you would have (hopefully) redress with the person claiming that their chickens were disease free...coryza is infectious and would mean that you would have to keep a closed flock or cull your entire flock. I hope and pray that this is not coryza for you and yours.

Please update with any further symptoms...may help determine the actual cause of the sick chick.

Discharge is in one eye. Not yellow but it is milky. I have not noticed a foul smell coming from them. I talked to a person here around where I live who has a hatchery. She suggested I put them on antibiotics. I have noticed on the smaller on an air bubble on the neck. I looked that up and it could mean a number of things. I am very upset I get close to all my animals. I am hoping they get better. The other two got better with just the Pet Rx. But I have the antibiotic in the coop with all the little ones so they will all be treated.

Hopefully this could just be stress related from changing one environment to your home environment...I agree that an antibiotic would be your priority right now...hopefully all of the chicks will grow up to be healthy and happy in their loving new home with you!

Keep us updated with their progress!

Thank you, I went outside to check on them like I always do 20 times a day and noticed the little chick with the swollen eye is doing better. Not much but her eye is open. Not sure how fast the antibiotic would work. It is oral so I would think it would be a day or two. It is hot here I am trying to keep them cool with water to stand it, but it gets so dirty so fast. Not all of them are sick I have 4 that are just fine and I have noticed them sick. Hopefully its nothing to worry with but I am going to worry about them till they are better. Love my girls!!!! Thanks and I will let you know how the 3 of them are doing. I love this site and the support I get from it!

Well here is an update on how they are doing. First the two that were sick before look like they are doing well. Maybe still a little snotty but moving around good. The worst one still looks kinda bad. Eye is still swollen shut, I think I am going to go up on the antibiotic tomorrow just because I was meeting in the middle with the dosage. Not much to tell as of right now. I am hoping after they rest and get a good nights sleep they will show signs of getting better in the morning.
