Well Forrest is walking flat footed toes extended. The other one is also doing this. They are still a little wobbly when they walk but a huge improvement. Hopefully that means it was just the vitamin deficiency.
Oh, that is good news. Please keep us updated on their condition. Here is one of the best articles which answers many questions about Mareks disease. Please look at the part about when symptoms show up--because I really don't think you are dealing with Mareks, so this link is just to educate you a little to ease your mind: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/the-great-big-giant-mareks-disease-faq
I am glad to hear your chicks are recovering. My chick is walking a little more upright tonight but her balled up toes seem to be the main problem now. I just tried to put shoes on, but her feet are so big it is hard to get all the toes on a band aid and she and her brood mates started picking at it immediatly. She was getting trampled so I took it off. I am hoping that by tomorrow we see the improvement that you have seen. Was forest wearing shoes to get her feet to flatten? anything alse that you think helped?
I am not convinced it was a vitamin deficiency unless it is caused by some genetic abnormality that didn't allow her to absorb riboflavin correctly. She had a good chick feed from my local grange and she had water with an electrolyte/ vitamin additive that had a good amount of ribolflavin in it. It could have been as simple as a broken toe. None of my others ever had any sign of walking difficulty. Now Billy is walking better. Not perfect, but shes more upright and has her toes spread out more. Sometimes her toes curl and her legs seem weak. She seems to be getting better rather than worse though.
For those who are looking through this thread for answers later... Billy is walking, she even jumped up to perch tonight. It was about a week of extra care. Making sure she had access to food and water since she wasn't walking well. I also started giving her sesame seeds because I read they were high in riboflavin. On the last day I started giving her hemp seeds and she was walking when I got home from work.
