Well all 21 of my chicks are doing great. I ordered 15 of the special straight run and 5 black astralorps and got an exotic for free. I can't wait to figure out what they all are?

Yay, got a call at 6am that mine were here.

Went to the back door at the post office and picked up a cheeping box. Opened the box up right away in our van to give them all a drink of water with electrolites because it's a 20 minute ride home.

Unfortuneatley had lost 2 during shipping and another was on her way out. Very week, gasping, not moving. Gave her water first then gave everyone else a drink and a once over look before heading home. My son held the weak chick on the way home, she did open her eyes and cheap a few times.

Once home my son took the healthy chicks to the brooder for another beak dipping session while I took the weak chick in to put her under her own light and give her some more water and a little egg yolk. Thought she was perking up but she must have been too far gone and died shortly after arriving home.

Went to check on the rest and take stock of their condition. Everyone was by now eating chick starter, drinking water, chirping and running around happily under the brooder light.

So I have 14 in good shape and safe here at home. I was only planning to keep 8 chicks and sell the extras so I still have enough to be my new set of laying hens when grown.

2 White Rock
1 Gold Buff/Gold Star
1 Partridge Rock
2 Barred Rock
2 Speckled Sussex
1 MMM mystery chick that might be another Gold Buff

Overall I am happy with my chicks, sad about the losses. Being as they got here way quicker than I thought they would I am surprised any were lost. Maybe they got too cold at night and piled up on them?

I got mine from Hoffman hatchery, in Penn. and all showed up doing GREAT and all alive. It's been very hot the past few days, maybe it got too hot for them??? So sorry for your loss!!!
