I'm sorry to be a bucket of ice water all the time, but I've seen the devastation this type thing can bring. Yes, he's quite handsome, but I think the right one will show up soon. And he will be in glowing good health.

Speckledhen, please don't feel bad! I just appreciate your experience and your honesty. Pussy footing around my feelings is not going to keep my flock safe and while it was a really hard lesson it is not one I am likely to forget. I am still a total novice at this chicken thing!! I can hardly believe how much I have already learned but I know there is boatloads more to learn. I REALLY appreciate the resource that this forum represents... so much information in one place, incredible! And yes, I am going to do my homework this time and get some more hatching eggs... and trust that I will hatch some good birds to provide and good beginning for a flock.

Thank you both for saying that. It's just that I always seem to be the voice of gloom and doom and it gets to be a real downer. I know it's necessary, but still...I'd rather tell people good things!
