New cockerel with excessive saliva and yellow on tongue

I want to give a final update for anyone who comes across this thread and is having a similar problem. My tongue tied cockerel is doing great! He is eating, drinking and crowing! His tongue healed great, it's quite a bit shorter then it should be, and eating takes more effort then it would have, but he seems to not be bothered by it.
The lesson I learned from this experience is if something seems off, keep investigating until you figure it out. I wonder if I had found the string the first day, if I could have saved his tongue. And when doing a check over on a chicken to also look in their mouth.

I have a 10wk old cockerel that I think is going through this same thing. 2 weeks ago we moved our chicks out to the coop and the following morning I found him with a string hanging out of his mouth. When i tried to gently pull it out of his mouth it looked like his tongue was coming along with it, so I decided to just cut it short and see if it would pass through him.

Cut to last night, I noticed he was drooling a lot and he was holding his neck stiff and close to his body. Brought him in and have been giving him water via syringe. I can't see any signs of a tongue in his mouth at all! It could be that I'm missing it but I really can't see it in there.

Thankfully he seems to be able to swallow when I fill his mouth with water, and I'm going to try some egg yolk broth tonight before bed. Besides being a bit tired, he is acting more and more normal. No signs of illness at all.

Sorry about your cockerel. He may have swallowed the string which has pulled the tongue down with it. Cannyou see any part of the string attached to the back of the tongue where it could be clipped? Could you take him to a vet?
