Hello All, I have to say I am very excited I have just hatched 6 out of 7 beautiful chicks in my home made incubator and one still in trying to get out. This is my first attempt. I had chickens when I grew up in Oregon and never thought I could have them here in my backyard in So. California. My association will allow 4 hens so the rest will have to go. Thanks to all of the advice and tips within this site I am confident I will have success. So far I have been able to determine I have 2 Barred Rock Pullets, 1 Rhode Island Red Pullet, 1 red sexlink pullet that will be able to stay. 1 silver Ameraucana cockerel who is so adorably cute and 1 red sexlink cockerel. Unfortunately the cockerels can't't stay and will be returned to my friends farm. As for lucky number 7 (Oh the anticipation) will just have to wait and see. If it is a pullet I may just keep her anyway and call her Aurora after the famed sleeping beauty. I also have 3 cats, 1 of them is just 9 weeks old. Nothing like starting a new family all at the same time. A little about me, I am a Disabled Vet from the U.S. Navy, a single mom of a beautiful boy and also a full time student working towards a master degree in acupuncture and oriental medicine. Our house hold is very busy but can always find the time to care for Gods creatures and look forward to our own fresh eggs. I hope to post some pictures soon before heading into finals week and find the time to build a coop. More to come soon
