New coop 2 years in the making....

Hey chickenaddict - your new coop looks awesome! My favorite part is the fruit of the loom nesting boxes. Perfect!!!

I know what you mean by having to shovel out to the coop in the snow. It's a bummer. I make a single path but it ends up more like a trough by spring. I always curse the coop around March, wishing I had built it closer to the house....

Congrats!

Thanks citychook

Me and the chickens waited a very long time for this. Sooo much work left to do but we will get there... maybe next year

I know about the snow-and when it rains they won't come out-what we did (the top of our run we enclosed with chicken wire) was use a tarp over the top on one half (the run is a good size) I don't even notice it-it really helped in bad weather-keeps out any leaves esp. in fall, and anything else and the girls are out even when its raining-don't have to shovel-we learned as we went !!!!! We also made roosters out of some of our trees we were taking down-love the way they look and we made different heights.

Thanks again everyone. They really love it, in fact instead of ranging outside in the yard most days they hang out inside the coop. We have nowinsulated all the walls and plan to finish up with the insulation in the ceiling which is gonna take away their rafter roosts. I have a funny feeling they aren't gonna like that much. We also got the shingles on the roof! No electric yet but I think with insulation and just a heat lamp this winter they should be just peachy. We have an extension cord running out there now for the baby monitor and a light. I hope that carries us thru the long cold winter ahead, if not it's gonna cost quite a bit of money to run another HD extension cord out there @ about 250 ft. As of this evening the coop is housing 43 banties comfortably. What really makes a huge difference is using desks and things to prop brooders up on to keep more floor space for the birds, lots of roosting in the rafters is almost another level in there for the as well. I the BIG leaved hostas around the pine tree within the run and within the days end the chickens had munched them down to nothing. The raspberry bushes were also devoured along with the trumpet vines.... SO much for the landscaping project but oh well the birds are happy and thats all that counts.

Well, after a very long time collecting discount paint from menards for $5 a gallon we finally had enough to get the coop painted thanks to me

Took me about 3 days to git r done and I still have a bit of trim to paint near the roof line but for the most part this puppy is finally painted! I am going to be building or buying some flower boxes to be mounted below each of the front windows hopefully by next spring. I have planted hostas around the base of the pine tree inside the run, added ferns around the outside of the run as well as some other perrenial plants they don't seem to bother.

The front

The south side where I still need to do the trim near the roof line, also the side that is right next to the compost mountain lol

The north side, chicken wire roof needs to be redone because of the huge branches from the trees falling on it from several storms we had this season

It finally looks like a coop! I am sooo proud of myself
