That might have been okay in the warm tropical clime of their origin but since none of us live in a jungle we need to provide a roost that allows the bird to settle down onto their feet. They then can extend or fluff their feathers which increases the insulating value thereby keeping them warm.
These may be your first birds but it appears that you are providing for them extremely well.
