New coop and run finished - from the UK. pictures

thanks for all your positive comments.

in answer to the questions:

we have 5 hybrid pullets - that seemed a nice manageable number for the space.

each end of the coop is a nesting box (the side roofs are hinged) that i've got straw in, the middle section has sharp / builders sand on the base. its working well so far just scoop out the poop one a day and stick it straight into the compost. there are 2 perches one high one low - but all birds can just about fit on either if they want. I added legs to give a dry shady spot and to make cleaning and egg collection easier. I think i need to add some sort of perch to the run however as the birds like sitting on top of the house at the moment. the doors needed changing mainly because of the pop hole design - it looked like it would let in rain and was in a bad state of repair.

the sleepers are fairly tar / creosote free. a couple are untreated oak and one is tropical hardwood, they have been in another garden for years and are weathered. i will however keep an eye on them and if they start getting pecked too much or seeping tar in the hot weather i'll line the bits the chickens can reach with some timber plank /gravel board.

cheers
