new coop begun-two years later and we're still working on it

hmmmm, i wonder what is up with george?
have you posted his symptoms in the illness thread to see if they are normal or not? if he is eating, drinking and acting normal perhaps the change in color is a normal part of his development? i don't know why he'd stop crowing, except maybe now that he knows how to do it he doesn't feel the need to practice?

i can't believe that all three of those chicks turned into roos!!!!! dangnabbit!

(sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread!)

Aw, you are all too much, but thanks for the compliments. I keep passing them on to DH. Here is the inside of the roof with all the panels up as of this afternoon. Still needs shingles, tar paper etc so he's got a tarp over it.

Henrietta, where are you??? Just wondering how the chicken coop/taj mahal is coming along. I've been pretty busy running back and forth between work and the 5 hour drive home on the weekends. The last pic of the roof is beautiful.

Awsome. Henrietta that coop is looking gorgeous. I cannot wait to see it finished and now I am in a hurry to move and build my own.

I hate moving too. hahahahahaha

DH got the tar paper on the roof yesterday and there are actually chickens living in it!!
I'll try to get some pictures soon. It's been a matter of rain or no time with the end of the school year. But we're getting there. My chicks are 6.5 and 7 weeks old today and I'm really eager for the nighttime temps to get high enough for them to move out. So we will need to get the pen finished and separated into two sections.

They're in!!! The babies are living in their dog pen inside the coop. George is in his dog crate more than either of us is happy with but I'm hoping he'll move in with the little girls soon. Oliver is free ranging with the big girls who have access to the open space in the coop. Sasha tries to roost on the edge of the dog pen every night and I have put her down onto the roost. I'm afraid she'll get caught in the bird netting that covers it or fall through and be in with the little girls. I just came in from moving her and locking everyone up. To my surprise I found Vanessa, one of the little EEs roosting on the edge of the pen opposite Sasha! She must have flown up, got lucky and slipped under the netting. We fastened the netting down with a bunch more clothespins. We really have to enclose the pen for the little girls so this isn't an issue! For some reason when I was in there taking pictures 10 of the 11 were crowded at one end, near the door where they could see the outside and near George

Then there was Bonnie, the EE, enjoying all that space! They really weren't all crammed in there the way they make it look!

Sasha peeked her head in to see what I was up to. She isn't used to humans in her living quarters having lived in a dog house for the past few years

Thanks, wish she was a little friendlier. But she has her place in the flock. The welsummers are a little agressive, especially toward the BOs, but Bonnie sticks up for them and shoos the wellies off. She's one of the bigger of the younger bunch and they all take her seriously. The BOs are not as friendly as I expected. They are the most timid. They seem eager to be out free ranging too. They storm the pen door when I open to put food and water in! They bite me whenever they get the chance. I'm kind of surprised.
Back to the coop, since I'm hijacking my own thread here, we're thinking of a light sage green opaque stain with cream trim. Our house and garage are cream. What do you think?
