New coop build

Im working on building a new coop for my newly hatched chicks I haven't had any chickens in around 7 years. My old coop got invaded and I lost my entire flock. I was obviously devastated and gave up on them for years. The last 3 or 4 springs I've been wanting to get back into raising chickens so this year I took the leap. Dug out my old Incubator and got some eggs and hatched them now im working on building a new coop. I have some videos on my YouTube ill post some links!

Got some painting done today and introduced the chicks to there new home. They seem to like it.

Not sure as to your climate, but you're going to want more ventilation in there. Assuming the run is going to be covered, the wall facing into the run is an ideal place for climate protected ventilation.

So add vents to each side of this window? Yes the run will be covered I ordered some 1/2 hardware cloth it was cheaper to order than from lowes.

Is that the side that faces into the run? If so, that'd be the best location for the bulk of ventilation to be.

What is your general climate like? In moderate climates 1 sq ft of vents per bird (open 24/7) would be fine. In areas with hotter summers you're looking at more than that, in which case you'll find "open air" coops (3 sided coops or coops with 1 entire wall as wire mesh) to be ideal.

Yes that is the run side. I'm in southwest VA it's not terribly hot here in the summer. Thanks for the link I will check that out!

I've been working on my coop, and so far there's about 14 square feet of ventilation. I'm going to add another 2 square feet at the top of that wall on the end too. It's going to be 2 square feet of ventilation per chicken ( I have 8 barred rocks) when I'm done, which they'll appreciate in the summer. I can close some of the vent openings off when it gets cold in the winter.
