Hi. Just new to BYC. I live just outside a small town on Lake Huron in Ontario. Been lurking for a couple of months trying to get ideas for my coop. We had chickens several years ago but without a proper coop. This time I want to do it right. I have found so many great ideas here that I don't know which to choose.

My issue right now is deciding what to do about the floor of the coop. We are using an old garage that was a shelter for our highland cows several years ago. There was no floor. My husband has built a raised plywood floor, about 1ft off the ground. I see that many here have used Blackjack rubber coating and I would have gone that way but am not able to get it here in rural Ontario, Canada (especially during the pandemic lockdown). The similar choices that I can get are this one https://daichcoatings.com/shop/elastolock/ or this one https://www.homehardware.ca/en/16oz-black-liquid-rubber-coating/p/2035753. I have no idea if they are safe for chickens. Or should I just go with floor/porch paint? However, the porch paint won't really fill in the seams or cracks in the plywood.

I am looking forward to being part of the chicken community.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I used 2 coats of Behr Porch and Floor paint on the plywood floor of my coop and it's holding up just great. But I do use poop boards and clean them each morning so not a lot of poop hits the floor.
