I currently have 10 1 year old chickens and want 10 new chicks. My husband is going to build a whole new coop to house all 20 chickens, it will be big enough to separate and keep older chickens on one side with their own yard and new chickens on the other side of the coop and yard. my concern is that the older chickens won't like the new coop. should i keep their old coop and let them acclimate slowly.

I'm in the process of building my new coop. I cannot keep my chickens out of it! I have to keep the door closed or I get invaded.
They will adjust to their new abode just fine.
You will have to keep them in it for a day or two until they get accustomed to laying in the new coop. They will want to go back to their established nest site. So removing the old coop will be important once you have moved them into their new coop.
Good luck.

Photos?
Is the old coop still in good shape/usable?
If it is, then I would keep it for future use if you have the space for it.
You never know when "extra" housing will be needed. It can be used to brood chicks, house a sick/injured bird, for separation, etc.

Put the older chickens in the new coop once it's finished, they will figure it out:)

That sounds awesome!!
Pics, please? :D

Agrees with keeping old coop, you may need/want it down the road.
Just lock the birds in the new coop and yard for a few days to a week or so,
they may well be upset for a day or so but be strong as it's the quickest way to make the change.

Oh, and ......Welcome to BYC! @JoyYohn
